So, there we have it, at last, a final admission by no less than the Labour Minister responsible for immigration, Liam Byrne, that the large-scale volume of net immigration his party has deliberately engineered with such machismo these last ten years has 'damaged the poorest communities and deeply unsettled the country’, to use the words employed by the Times yesterday in its account of what he has admitted.
The admission comes in a collection of essays published yesterday by the centre-left think-tank Policy Network entitled ‘Rethinking Immigration and Integration'.
For some time now, to those with eyes to see it has been manifest New Labour’s predilection for relying on importing cheap foreign labour to foster economic growth has come at a high price for the country's least well-off citizens. Their job prospects and pay levels have been squeezed by the competition from the newcomers, with whom they have also had to compete for public services, like medical care and schools for their children, as well as for accommodation and road space or seating on public transport, whose growth has not kept pace with that of the country’s population, as a result of the sustained high levels of immigration of which New Labour has been so fond.
New Labour vainly hopes to find a remedy in a new-points system by means of which in future, they claim, they will be better able to regulate immigration to ensure it meets national need, but it is all too little and, what’s worse, too late.
Those who have suffered most from New Labour’s badly misnamed policy of so-called ‘managed migration’ and who, for the most part, have been its traditional supporters look set to punish the party which has let them down so badly by deserting it in the polls for far-right parties offering much tougher remedies.
There are more civilised and humane ways to deal with the problems than the most draconian ones offered by those towards whom the country’s alienated working-class voters look likely to turn at the forthcoming local elections. However, they all involve severely reducing net immigration, possibly stopping it altogether for the foreseeable future. This, however, is much easier said than done, given how badly run down and ill prepared the immigration service has been left under New Labour.
So far as social cohesion is concerned, no number of citizenship lessons is going to be able to heal the profound damage that New Labour has inflicted upon the country through its reliance on cheap foreign labour as a quick fix solution to economic growth.
With their generous index-linked pensions, those New Labour politicians who have gotten the country into this mess will not themselves be adversely affected. But so many others have been and will. The voting public did not forgive the Major government for Black Wednesday, nor will they forgive the Blair-Brown administration for its mismanaged migration policies.
We are at the end of the present administration, of that that there can be no doubt. It remains to be seen whether what follows will be any better or very much worse. Either way, the damage that has been inflicted upon social cohesion by the government's ill-conceived approach towards immigration will take a long time to heal, if indeed it ever will recover from the assault it has suffered these last ten years.

Comments (35)
In all these comments, I see nobody has taken issue with the lie told by the government, that immigration is necessary because of an aging population.
The truth is that in 100 years time, unless the population keeps growing, we'll be in the same position again, but with more old people to look after.
We have to accept that ultimately a falling population is better for us, but there is a price to be paid now which no politician will accept whilst there is a way to make it someone else's problem in the future.

I meet idiots on the Right too! One practically verbally assaulted me merely for suggesting that Turkey should be treated with kid gloves by the EU, in case she go over to the extremists on her borders. I suggested highly controlled migration and got a pasting from some Italiam girl called 'Susan' who has little if any understanding of geopolitics and the effects of mass migration, especially from countries with NATO links like Turkey. Turkey is a buffer state in the region, and, as Iran gets hold of nukes, her role as NATO east defender is crucial. We may have to buy Turkey by allowing her into the EU after all. This is what America wants of course, but we will be flooded with migrants adding to a serious problem. America though retains an ally in the region and her bases in Turkey and Europe pays the price with millions more migrants!

We are given the illusion of choice -- either Labour, Tories,or the lib-dems, but in reality this is no choice at all.
All three parties are signed up to the new 21st century communism and quite happy to practise its cultural marxism, also meaning PC and multiculturalism!
Our fate was signed up to under the Tories by that goof- ball Heath with his lies.
How many voters in Britain know we are signed up to The Eu/Arab dialogue? This explains much of the influx of immigrants of the muslim type. Also the Rabat commitment which is fast bringing into our schools the teaching of Islam, although the spin tells you that it is just teaching world religions. I wonder whether Arabic is not also in the pipeline. Again, the mention of Mandarin is to take the eye of the Arab ball so to speak.
You won't hear the name eu/arab dialogue... No minutes are even kept of their secretive meetings.
You may hear the mention of the mediterranean union....
No not Spain or italy, this is the Arab nations.
A free trade area, meaning open borders to all who desire to come!
I went into my town last summer, then again two weeks ago. The change in such a short period was just overwhelming. I thought it resembled an African state rather than a Northern town, very few white faces. Later, I was told many have ceased bothering to go there anymore.
Then I thought about all i'd read re. the EU/Arab dialogue, the Rabat committment, the new communism, how we would no longer be voting our government into power but that they were even removing that choice by bringing in new voters, that by giving out welfare payment to them it was obvious the vote would stay with the marxists.!
Remember the empire was not given to us, we took it!
England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland are not for sale at any price.

In the US, 7 of the top 8 wealthiest Senators voted for S. 2611, the amnesty for illegals. Statistics at link on my name.
In the US, men's median wages peaked in 1973. Women, black and Hispanic wages are below men's median wages, and thus are lower than men's were in 1973.
US income inequality is U shaped in the 20th century, top 1 percent got 20 percent of annual national income before 1920's restriction, got 10 percent after and now are back to 20 percent. The 7 of top 8 Senators voting for immigration are well in the top 1 percent. See links at Old Atlantic Lighthouse for sources.

Behind the phenomenon of mass immigration lies the corruption of politicians by big business. It does not matter which area of the economy immigrants enter, wages are driven down across the board - except in the public sector, where wages are fixed. A third of workers have experienced a drop in wages since 1997 according to Polly Toynbee - hardly a raving racist. Trades union "leaders" stopped complaining about the wage-depressing effect of immigration in the late 50's - immigrant subscriptions were by then boosting their salaries nicely.
Politicians of both main parties are bought off through donations into their "blind trusts" - such gifts do not have to be declared in the register of members' interests. This is why neither the traditional party of big business, the Tories - nor the newer one, whose faux socialism of feminism, anti-racism and animal rights has replaced its old ambition to give labour its due reward - can do anything to avert the coming social upheaval. Both are committed to driving down wage bills and to accepting the backhanders such policy brings.
To paraphrase David Blunkett from when he was Home Secretary - there is no obvious limit to a politician's greed.

All these comments can be put into one characterisation and that is: vote for representatives that are not only democratic but non-party dogma-deranged and get some new people in doing the real work of a current world in serious danger of disappearing... I myself live in the Canaries with an enormous illegal immigration problem that is beginning now to escalate into a chaos of demands and work inopportunity that will begin the despicable 'poverty trap' that destroys the whole ethos of a society. Where once we found work, now we find illegal immigrants and no contracts... cash paid and no records... apart from the massive demand these new immigrants make on the less than perfect infrastructures of social/medical services. It's a bad scene knowing that their problem is the destruction of their countries' values and rescources by greedy divisive politics and TNC's in their own countries. Where to begin is at home, of course... We owe it to ourselves if we want to maintain the standards that many have commented about... Why do I live here? Principally for the climate, it's easier on the joints and muscles... and the problems with African mafias and Muslim fundamentalists are less. And, no, I am not a racist in the general sense but a culturalist who believes in keeping that in place.

I read Mr Aziz's comments with interest! As a professional historian/ author I find his grasp of history most interesting! Dr Goebbels would have been most keen to employ him for this particular talent in rewriting it!
What is most appalling, is that a man such as he should have the sublime arrogance to lecture professionals like me on our attitudes, never mind the rest of us Brits of all origins!
For years I have studied archaeology, dug in the earth and supported by source material, I can safely say that British history is pretty exact as was taught when I was a child!
Mr Aziz is obviously a Moslem and seems to empathise with an agenda supported by extremists of his faith!
I am most interested in why he feels that Britain should 'get to grips' with the global system so destroying its identity through mass migration! What right has he to impose this fascist style intention and diktat on the rest of us?
Britain is a nation and a country is far more than an economic entity! It comprises culture, a commonality of outlook, virtues and above all law! Those are not just intagible abstractions either but vital ingredients for the success of a nation state! We may not be perfect but we must aspire to those higher notions of statehood in order to remain a nation state, with a unique identity!
I would also ask Mr Aziz why he hates this land so much that he has obviously benefited from? Will he also be able to take responsibility for the destruction of Britain, with all those others that crawl around the present New Labour Establishment with similar views and face the 'music' when it all goes wrong...as it will and already is!
Will he be able to look himself in the mirror without cringing, if ever he has the courage and intelligence to face reality that like so many of his ilk, he ignores, replacing it with a ridiculous childish, dahgerous abstract relativism.
Mr Aziz might like to call me 'racist'! He would be ill advised, since I am in a mixed faith and very happy 'multi-racial' marriage myself. My black wife agrees with me too!
No Mr Aziz, you and your kind should be charged with 'Crimes against Humanity' for you have indeed committed crimes against your fellow citizens.
My advice to you is to curb your tongue and take a history lesson. Reality is not what you want or demand it to be but what I and 60,000,000 other Britons know it to be!
Shame on you! The result of your folly will be a Tiber Running with Roman blood and every other nationality as well! This is the folly of your arrogance! What kind of 'kindness' is that then to your fellow man! You Sir are the real Racist. You hate everything this land stands for!Yet it has obviously given you so much!
And what is wrong with 'Racism'? Racism does not mean to abuse another, merely to protect one's own kind! I am a 'racist' since I wish to protect my British fellow citizens of all colours and creeds. The British 'race' is composed of many Commonwealth citizens that have every right to be here through our imperial and wonderful past that you so love to denigrate. I have friends from Trinidad, India, Pakistan, and elsewhere where the sun never set on an Imperial British demesne. Most are desperately proud to be British and so they should be! Those like brave Private Beharry VC of my old regiment that were once so common a sight, when we really were a British family and monoculture stretching acrosss the globe and a symbol of freedom that you and your kind despise!

Wrong!
There are various distinct ethnicities within the Caucasian classification and all are most certainly not of Hebrew origin.
The oldest descendants' bloodline found in Britain today is not of nonwhite stock. It is of same race European white stock.
Remember, Arabs and Jews are of the same bloodline also. Therefore, should Israel include Arabs of all nationalities in her Jewish homeland, too? According to your interpretation of the ancient demographics of the United Kingdom, they should regardless.
This excellent forum will enlighten those truly interested in this topic.

".....there are no such persons as “illegal immigrants.....”,
Ah, well let's see how this statement of yours is likely to pan out when the shoe is on the other foot!
1. Saudi Arabia welcomes 1.5m illegal and (undocumented) Christian Europeans into the country as part of an ongoing population diversity programme, whilst simultaneously outlawing dissent by her indigenous Arab Sunni population.
2. Iran welcomes 1m illegal (undocumented) Iraqi Sunni immigrants into the country as part of an ongoing population diversity programme, whilst simultaneously outlawing dissent by her indigenous Shia population.
3. Pakistan welcomes 1.5m illegal (undocumented) Christian Hispanics into the country as part of an ongoing population diversity programme, whilst simultaneously outlawing dissent by her indigenous Sunni population.
Now, N. Aziz, will you be in agreement with the above very real future possibilities or not?

West Thamesmead - a swathe of new developments under the umbrella of the Thames Gateway: Two years there has completely turned my perspective of a diverse community on its head - criminal West African gangs have bought our new community to its knees - socially and economically by fraud. We all have negative equity due to the mortgage fraud and the appalling unsociable behaviour and violence has put off anyone decent from moving in or of staying if they have a choice. Yes, there are some British people that commit crime in our area - but not many, and it is petty crime. West African gangs (many of them illegal) have bought our area to the edge economically, it has collapsed - residents groups have tried to deal with it - but it is an uphill struggle. I live in a ghetto like Festac - but I paid for my home and it cost a lot of money. The community is not harmonious - the west africans do not want to mix and the British people are nervous as any time you challenge any of them for breaking doors, dumping mattresses, parking in your garage - you are nearly always called racist. After 10 years of living in London, always in diverse areas, the first 8 years weren't bad, the past 2 in West Thamesmead have completely changed me - now I don't want to live in a diverse community anymore - because it has ruined the quality of our lives and has tested our tolerance to the highest level. I am English, Christian and why should I feel guilty for saying that as many of us are in cities today - it does not make us racist.

Over 3000 years, the many invaders to these Isles were Dannites, Milesians, Celts, Romans, Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Danes, Vikings, Normans and Hugenots (and recently, Poles). They were ALL distant cousins of the same Caucasian (True Hebrew Israelite) stock.
After some skirmishes, rape & pillage they quickly settled down and fully integrated. They provided their own welfare and skills and hard work. There was plenty of room for them then. They were ALL Christian and pre-Christian-Druid-led.
Since 1948 and the probable KGB-agent and anti-Christian, Harold Wilson and his comrades (and sucessors today in the Lib-Lab-Con-TU-Media-pseudo-Christian-Church gang) OUR Isles have been invaded by large numbers of foreigners of heathen faiths, who naturally want to impose their own religions and belief systems and laws on us natives.
All decent British and Irish patriots must study and expose the Big Conspiracy and its agents, dupes, motives and spiritual forces driving it.
Uniquely in history, we have the Web (to bypass the controlled media) although it is now being increasingly censored.

This "N Aziz" is a typical self-righteous interloper without whom the Labour bosses would have no power; who in turn have given people like him unwarranted latitude at the expense of White Britons.
Please note how he exemplifies the insolent 'anti-racist' who wants to maintain his divine status. Many here in the United States who have eyes to see are working hard to avoid Britain's fate with the influx of millions of uneducated, swaggering Mexicans teeming across the landscape...a fact I'm sure this Naziz appreciates. But that's alright. Generally speaking, no 'good deed' has ever gone unpunished in Britain or the United States.

As an ex trade unionist and in response to Mr Aziz’s comments on immigration without dwelling too much on his obvious hostility towards the indigenous white English population however I’m sure he could never be accused of being a racist, let me clarify one or two of his points in order to educate him and others about the country he so eagerly wishes to acquire third world status. The UK has never been a country of immigrants I have no idea where he bowls this googly from but the make up our society has been well documented over the centuries and the relevant information debunking his statement can easily be accessed through most search engines on the web. As for immigrants “favouring” us with their presence how does that work then we all give thanks as they take away all our jobs and homes? Some favour, and no they are not entitled to equal rights in respect of housing and medical treatment etc because it belongs to those who have paid for it through taxes, not some freeloaders stepping off a plane who have no identity papers and have never contributed a penny to the state or a service they want to abuse for free. As for his reference to the BNP and some imaginary statute book, what book, and what reasons would cause a perfectly legal political party to be banned, cash for honours seems to be quite legal at the moment so what’s he talking about? Does he not think that if there were such laws against the BNP that this corrupt government would not have unearthed them by now? Clearly his legal brief and general knowledge are somewhat lacking to say the least especially when he refers to some imaginary statute book quoting legalities then stating that someone who turns up in our country who cant speak a word of English, has no passport and clearly didn’t enter the country via any legal method that he/she is not an illegal immigrant. The only people in our history to get away with that one were the Romans the Vikings and the Normans and they made it quite clear multiculturalism was not on the agenda so get you’re your facts right. He also states that many of these people are in his Union, are their employers aware that they could be employing people who are not entitled to work? Is his Union actively enrolling people who should not be in this country? Perhaps Birmingham immigration services should have a world with this fellow when they are not too busy looking into the electoral frauds that have blighted Birmingham elections in the past. Banana Republic springs to mind. Finally I must agree with him on one point a bold no nonsense statement should be made by this government and it should simply state. “Were full the doors are closed and those riding on the roof can get off at the next stop”

May the 3rd is our chance to say no to Labour and their liberal euro-grovelling allies. You don't have to like the BNP to vote for them. Vote for them anyway and maybe somebody will realise we've had enough and are ready to stand up and be counted. Stop whinging and fight back at the ballot box.

As a trade-unionist I feel bound to say that this is a typical report from a typically racist, biased organisation. My home of Birmingham will soon be the first city to have a population without a majority of so-called “indigenous” inhabitants. Britain is a country of immigrants and those new citizens who favour us by coming here to support us must have full and equal rights with the rest of the community, whether it be in housing, health or education.
The sooner the whole of the UK population mix reflects the inhabitants of Birmingham, the sooner this latter day scourge of racism will be eliminated. As for the BNP, a search of about half-way-down the first page of statute books will reveal more than a dozen legal reasons why this pernicious organisation should be banned.
The government has some courageous decisions to make in securing the country’s (and its own) future. The balloting power of an such a substantial segment of society should not be overlooked.
Regularisation of those citizens who may not have the necessary documentation must be rectified as a priority - there are no such persons as “illegal immigrants”, many of whom are accepted as full members of my union, now constituting a significant section. A bold, no-nonsense statement of intent to invite workers here should be declared and the necessary infrastructure implemented to settle them on arrival.
Britain has a long way to go in connecting with a fluid, global workforce, and the proven benefits to the country are only just being realised. Efforts by government to fully communicate this fact to the population at large have thus far been pitiful, the resultant increase of ill-informed support of the far-right being symptomatic.
The last few years should be seen a just the beginning of a prosperous new future. A new government leadership must grasp this opportunity without delay.

Britain is finished and I don't think there is anything we can do to stop this happening. I don't recognise this country anymore, it's rare that I even hear English spoken on the streets where I live. It's hard for a white English man to become a police officer or fire fighter because of positive discrimination. I am Christian but made to feel ashamed of this. I can't get my own house because of all the immigrants snapping them up.The only thing I can think of is that we become immigrants ourselves and move to Australia or New Zeland. Britain is dead....vote Labour.

Can anyone think of a country (outside of America, the melting pot par excellence) where major ethnic division isn't accompanied by (at best) ethnically divided politics ?
The English tragedy is that we've imported large numbers of people while making no attempt to integrate them - and abusing as racists those like Ray Honeyford who called for integration.
The English paradox is that, while a self-confident nation is capable of integrating large numbers of incomers, a self-confident nation would almost certainly not have allowed immigration on such a scale.

I read your article this morning in the Sunday Telegraph, and thought it is not that long ago when perhaps the media would have been far too scared of the PC brigade even to mention immigration. So perhaps slowly but surley the tide is turning, as the reality of unfettered mass immigration begins to impinge on the lives of the electorate, our cocooned and arrogant politicians may just take note that all is not sweetnes and light in our land.

The media reports that the country has become unsettled due to the mass immigration policies of the present Government. Now the genuine LEGAL Immigrants married to British citizens are expected to have a greater knowledge about Life in the UK and a standard of english higher than many people born here. They are unsettled, because of the new rules changed after the settlement journey began, not knowing how long their extension visas will be for, arbitrarily decided by the immigration caseworker who deals with the application, and likely to increase in charges to pay for the ID cards and bio- technology to come. Everyone has now become UNSETTLED because of the fiasco in the HOME OFFICE.

Are there any figures for so-called "Family Reunion" immigration? The large number of spouses brought in from the Indian sub-continent must have a considerable impact on the demographics of the UK. This is not the reunion of separated families but the creation of new ones. I understand they are largly brides-to-be. What happens to the unwanted bachelors? They in general cannot marry outside their religion or racial group for cultural reasons.

Vast areas of our cities have now become ghetto-ised thanks to government neglect and help from councils/liberals. Simplistic to say but these areas just don't 'feel right'. Where I live, we already have the American phenomenon of 'white flight', where families of working people from the host community have opted to move out - leaving areas that are social pits.
Those of us who work and pay our way will have to carry, financially, those who cannot contribute.
As for myself, I'm in the final stages of getting a visa for another country outside of Europe as I think this is a Europe-wide issue and can see no end to it and want to be away before I'm old!
There will be a massive social and economic price to pay over the next decades.

I live in Camden, Central London. In the last 10-15 years there has been a dramatic change in the demography of this area.
There has been such a rapid rise in the 'Muslim' population, the council is funding a mosque and Islamic centre through a community grant and using taxpayer's money money to do it. Schools are looking to close on Eid and Halal meat is served without a choice in some schools.
Quite a number of schools in the borough are 95% Muslim which is hardly cosmopolitanism as other nationalities are not represented if using the religious definition.
I am afraid any idea of a melting pot is not happening.

Labour has deliberately imported mass immigrants as part of its European Policy, import millions of people who have no allegiance to the UK and who will vote (you can be sure they will be given a vote) in a referendum for Europe. Devolution, attempts to regionalise the UK, regionalise the police service... all to break the national identity and image of ourselves as one cohesive country with a common interest. It is also the anti-capitalist, anti-white, anti-globalisation, anti-empire liberal left who want to destroy the 'hideous whiteness' (to quote a BBC man, of course) of this country and to end its economic, military diplomatic power.
Cameron was approached by the KGB and rebuffed them. It is conceivable on his record that they were more successful with Blair.

OUT OF OUR HANDS
It is no longer this country's choice as to who can come here. The vast majority of incomers in future will be East European and asylum seekers - neither group subject to the points system which the government pretends will reduce the numbers coming here. Until we withdraw from the Council of Europe agreement and the EU, we will never be in control of immigration. We should be members of the EFTA and enjoy what we all voted for many years ago - European cross-border trade arrangements only. Sadly there is no Supreme President at the head of that organisation so Mr Blair's ambitions will never come to fruition from following that route. He is therefore hell-bent on bringing the EU Constitution in by underhand, undemocratic means to enhance his standing with the kingmakers of Europe. As always, the British public's wishes will be ignored.

Gentlemen,
There are further steps in public discourse that remain to be taken, but which even you relatively-independent thinkers are yet unable to countenance.
It is not enough merely to argue that immigration has been wrecklessly pursued since Barbara Roche's groundshaking announcement in, I think, 1998, or even that "the poor" have been damaged by it.
There are values in public policy of which economic growth and prosperity are two. Catering, in theory at least, for an ageing demographic is another. But these are proximate values, and they do not compare in gravity or meaning to the ultimate value of ethnic interest.
Ethnic interest takes several forms. Love of the land, in a perfectly sacred sense, is highly visible one. Even the most dry and intellectual Jews, for example, love Israel in a sense that they can never feel for America - which they characterise as "an idea". I, being an Englishman, do not find England "an idea" to which one may attach false civic values such as tolerance and the celebration of diversity.
A more direct expression of ethnic interest, of course, is love of one's people. Again, taking Jews as an example, they do not love all semitic peoples as they love themselves. Quite right. This is an iron law of evolution, for ethnies are extended families, and kinship is the basis of trust, altruism, sacrifice, etc.
So it remains for serious thinkers of English lineage - and only English lineage - to begin to speak publicly here about our ultimate interest, and to differentiate it qualitatively from the usual proximate interests.
We need to begin speaking of the illegitimacy of opinions that support our slow dispossession and deracination. We need to begin speaking about the perfect moral right of the English to England. We need to begin speaking of democratic right of the ethnic English to determine their racial future in the way that they should have been permitted to determine it in 1948. We need to begin changing the terms of debate to reflect our ethnic interest, rather than the ethnic interest of those who are not English.
Of course, you have to be English to want to do this in the first place. I suggest you take a very close look at those who do not.

The idea we require immigrants to counterbalance a shrinkage in population is idiotic.
What with the imminent arrival of Peak Oil, Climate change, Eco-Conflicts over water and mass environmental refugees, the last thing we require is more people in the country. The fact we would be having less people if we didnt have immigration is how nature is preparing us for this next stage in human development. As Jung said ' Some events cast a shadow long before they happen'. Less people in the future would have better lives once society is restructured. Instead we will have more and more people living more and more squallid lives so that idiot economists can balance the books in favour of themselves and their paymasters.
We are at the brink of a new industrial revolution. Robotics and computers will replace most of the low-skilled jobs, and we need to re-train those people to be carers and to utilise their potential as human capital in a society based on caring.
The idea that we should create an economic and manufacturing base for our present and future society based on the low skilled, low wage explotation of immigrants is idiocy. Returning to the industrial basis of the 18th century for the 21st century is simply moronic. The future is hi-tech, robotics, and computer engineering based on low energy use. People will have longer leisure hours and the dirty job will be done by machines not people.
We need people not slaving in factories but taking care of our own people - retrained as nurses, carers, environmental guardians, teachers and scientists. Not as low-skilled slaves in factories filled with immigrant labour.
The era where such an exploitative society could be sustained, due to cheap oil, is almost over.
Chaos will erupt if we are not allowed to evolve society to a higher level.

Stopping immigration will make no difference, migration from Eastern Eoropean countries would just fill the void.

I came to live in the UK 34 years ago, and it saddens me to see Labour's dogma that mass-migration-is-good-for-the-economy means that this country's social policy will create masses of disaffected young, white men who have no hope for the future because plentiful, cheap semi-skilled migrant labour removes from government, industry and employers any need to provide apprenticeships and career training.
When Germany's eastern borders opened after the fall of communism, when regions were overwhelmed by an influx of prosperity-seeking new arrivals, the rise of neo-Nazi groups was one of the shocking consequences.
Liberal traditions stand and fall on there being a degree of hope for all sections of this country’s people. The chances to succeed for a huge number of young white males are removed when short-term profit thinking of some sections of industry and commerce is given the unfettered upper- hand above policies which concern themselves with social cohesion and longer term policies.
As a German I fear that once the current economy model, based squarely on an insane and unsustainable housing bubble and hysteria for home-ownership, falters, that the young who are left without prospect or hope will have nowhere else to go but into the welcoming embrace of far right groups.

I notice at http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20070420/tuk-lifestyle-britain-a7ad41d.html the well heeled are already starting their flight from the mess the leadership in many sectors has created.
The failure to openly debate immigration concerns by the liberal media and politicians at the last general election was a national disgrace, opening as it has an avenue for the extreme right to exploit.
The media has been complicit to the point where they have been a major recruiting asset for the extreme right.
The cult of Political correctness or it used to be known Cultural Marxism needs to be erased from Government operations and the media wherever it is found as that more than anything has got us in this mess.

My sympathies to you for the treatment dished out to you on PM yesterday. It must have been a Herculean effort to stay calm in the face of such provocation by that self-righteous little twerp the programme put up against you. And Eddie Mayer egged him on. An outrageous display of intolerence, slander and rudeness by one so archetypical of the fascistic left.

The remarks from the minister come just before the May elections (in which Labour is expected to fare badly)
Perhaps therein lies the reason for the timing.
However, what is more interesting from my point of view is the stance of the trade unions, the so called champions of the low paid. We have heard not a word, not a murmur about the negative effects of mass immigration on the jobs of the poorly paid.
So, I will spell it out for them. A mass influx of cheap labour is good news for the employer but bad news for the worker.
I still can't hear anything from the union leaders? Oh, I forget they are not themselves poorly paid.

The insane immigration policies have been ongoing for more than just Nu Labour's reign of terror. Immigration has been allowed(encouraged) by the previous Tory administrations also.
I have just read Mark Steyn's book "America Alone" which makes the point very forcibly that the immigration policies of the past generation have probably been introduced for demographic reasons. He makes the point that western Europe's populations would shrink alarmingly by the middle of this century were it not for a strongly encouraged immigration policy.
Whilst one may have sympathy with governments concerns about the future of a country economically impoverished by a rapidly ageing population, the indigenous population affected might think differently. In any case the whole question is yet another example of ALL politicians inability to honestly explain the reasons for their actions.
