Sharia law for the UK

There are already some voices calling for personal Sharia law to be applied in parts of the UK. Is it anything to worry about? Recent German experience suggests that any such calls ought to be firmly resisted. Johann Hari in the Independent describes a recent ruling by Judge Christa Datz-Winter involving a Muslim woman who asked for an early divorce because of the severe beatings meted out by her brutal husband. The judge declined to grant an early divorce because, despite police evidence of extreme violence, there was no "unreasonable hardship". Why? Because Muslim women should have "expected" to be beaten. The judge went on to cite passages from the Koran granting Muslim husbands the "right to use corporal punishment", including Sura 4, verse 34.

Abu ghulam:

this is to tell u that the battle between truth and false is a never ending battle. And I must testify to you that the good ending is always for those that fear Allah. whether u like it or not, Islam is gonna rule the whole universe once again no matter how vehement u r towards it.

Constantinople_1453:

What we have on our hands is a war with battles on different fronts. Some of these battles have a military element such as in Iraq and others do not such as the spread of Sharia law within the Muslim communities in the UK. The ultimate objective is the imposition of Sharia law by stealth or by violence on the world with the most of us being subjugated to live in dhimmitude. In contrast, the Jews have never tried to impose their legal system on us.

Until the majority of the people wake up to this developing situation, we will continue to see the battle going well for the other side. Perhaps in the USA, Mitt Romney will be the leader to inspire the fight back and really take the battle in the enemy’s camp by winning not only any military conflicts but also winning the information and propaganda wars.

Mike:

There must be one rule of law for everyone, without exception or exemption, otherwise we really will have a fractured and inchoherent society, which will continue to foster an us and them attitude. Them being the Muslims, and us being the indigineous population who accept that our traditions, culture and values are broadly Christian based.
However we are already some way down the slippery slope; "police are talking to community leaders" which means Muslim community leaders.
Police will not use sniffer dogs when searching suspect premises when the subjects are Muslim, these are just two examples of the special treatment afforded to they who must not be offended.
Do you feel like a second class citizen in your own country? I do.

MJW:

I believe that a distinct Jewish legal system already exists in certain Jewish communities in the UK, so this isn’t simply a matter of Sharia law.

It’s also not a black and white issue, if these systems can be used to solve minor internal civil disputes within these communities then they may have a useful function, so long as they are not be used in cases where criminal behaviour is involved and it is clear that UK law overrides and remains an option at any time. Of course even with such safeguards the danger of abuse from extremists who may come to dominate these processes remains.

James Stubbs, Coventry, U.K.:

Why is the battle already lost? That's defeatist talk. My experience is that battle has never been joined. Many have surrendered without a fight, and now just curse the darkness. Light a candle man, and maybe you'll start a fire.

C:

Ample proof that the islamification of Britain and indeed Europe in general is proceeding well.

The battle is already lost. The most we can do is look after ourselves and ourselves only as our elected leaders are only there to betray us.

I cannot believe that Europe which once stood for democracy, human rights, the Renaissance, advances in science, medicine and technology has been hijacked from us and turned into this steaming pile so-called "human-rights" laws, "multiculturalism" and "integration".

It is a sad state indeed.
