Switzerland's largest political party, the Swiss People's Party, has proposed deporting immigrant families if their children are convicted of crimes involving violence, drugs and benefit fraud.
Ueli Maurer, the party's president, said: "We believe that parents are responsible for bringing up their children. If they can't do it properly, they will have to bear the consequences."
The party said foreigners, who make up 20 percent of the Swiss population, are four times more likely than native Swiss to commit crimes.
The Guardian has already likened the proposal to laws enacted by Nazi Germany.
The paper also filed the story in a section on Europe's "far-right" - hardly fair for a party which is Switzerland's largest.
Mauer, the party's leader, defened the proposal by saying that he believed that "as soon as the first 10 families and their children have been expelled from the country, then things will get better at a stroke."
The Swiss People's Party has previously proposed that mosques should be prevented from building minarets - just as Christian communities in many Middle Eastern countries are preventing from building churches with towers.
Yes! First, families of terrorists, along with the terrorists, should be deported! Also families of criminals should be deported, especially the benefit fraud families. The US should do the same thing.
Why is this Nazi?...it is common sense, if you invite someone to your house not realising they may be serious criminals and they commit a serious crime, you should have the right to expell them.....to protect the rest of your family.
Yes! And let's agree on the definition of 'family'. Make sure it includes both the children, whether at home or not - "sins of the father" and all - and grandparents, who frankly are responsible for spawning them, sorta. And cousins too. If when engaged in debate the person one is debating with suddenly lets forth the cry 'NAZI' or 'Racist' similar to how an ass doth bray then one can be sure of two things ;
A) That you have won the debate and therefore the opponent is only left with the classic Marxist-Leninist Ad Hominem technique of 'The Terrorism of the Word ' to try and divert attention away from the fact they are unable to win the debate
B) That the person who used the word 'Nazi' or 'Racist' is in fact an IDIOT.
I think I may emigrate to Switzerland, it sounds my kind of place.
I think that Switzerland has got a very valid point and every right to do what they feel they need to do. After all, all they are wanting to do is look after Switzerland & its people.
If you go to live in Switzerland and you can't behave, you're out. Sounds fair to me.
