The Muslim Council of Britain has issued a press release welcoming Lord Phillips's recent comments on the possibility of introducting certain Sharia principles into British law.
Entitled 'Muslims want Equality before British Law', the press release praised the "Lord Chief Justice's valuable contribution to the discussion on the role of Islam and Muslims in Britain's legal traditions".
Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary general of the MCB, said "It is a credit to this country's strong and independent judiciary that Lord Phillips has put the demands of justice above those of the prevailing political narrative. The MCB reaffirms its commitment to the principle of equality before the law and welcomes Lord Phillips' call for Muslims to be allowed to apply elements of Islamic law to the governance of personal relationships where this does not conflict with the laws of the land".
Inayat Bunglawala, Deputy Secretary General of the MCB, also expressed his support for Lord Phillips on Comment is Free in an article entitled 'There's a place for sharia'.
These comments come in the wake of Lord Phillips stating that:
"Those who, in this country, are in dispute as to their respective rights are free to subject that dispute to the mediation of a chosen person, or to agree that the dispute shall be resolved by a chosen arbitrator or arbitrators. There is no reason why principles of sharia law, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution. It must be recognised, however, that any sanctions for a failure to comply with the agreed terms of the mediation would be drawn from the laws of England and Wales".
Commenting on physical punishments such as flogging, stoning and the cutting off of hands, Lord Phillips said "There can be no question of such courts sitting in this country, or such sanctions being applied here. So far as the law is concerned, those who live in this country are governed by English and Welsh law and subject to the jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts."

‘Muslims want Equality before British Law’
"Muslims want EQUALITY before British Law"
I had no idea the Muslim population of Britain were unequal before the law...is this their pseudo-assertion? Are the MCB demanding EQUALITY before (they accept) British Law? Of course, I could be reading this wrongly...
The apostle Paul wrote in Galations 3:28:
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
If Sharia law became enforced in Britain, who would be left to safeguard the well-being of Jews, Christians, and women, given how they are currently treated in countries under Sharia law?
I'm sick of the government and newspapers siding with self-appointed 'Faith groups' and councils, who only represent themselves! According to the ex-muslim council of Britain (Yes they exist)...
"The MCB draws inspiration from the neo-fascist Jammaat-e-Islami... The Muslim Council of Britain has, for example, openly declared that gay and lesbians are unacceptable and harmful and maintained the discrimination against millions of women by the imposition of sexual apartheid and the veil."
Yet every press release and comment made by MCB goes unchecked in the media (Through lack of thought and fear of racism) and gradually the public will accept anything said by Islamist groups such as these as legitimate, because they don't know any different.
