Guide dogs allowed into UK mosques

The Muslim Law Council UK has issued a fatwa which allows guide dogs to enter mosques.

The fatwa was issued after a request from Mohammed Abraar Khatri, an 18 year old blind Muslim student from Leicester, who will become the first to take advantage of the new ruling.

Khatri said that the religious authorities were “actually very good and they were the ones who were willing to help because they said it is their duty to accommodate.”

Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Muslim Council of Britain co-ordinated support for Khatri’s request, with a Guide Dogs for the Blind statement saying it was "a massive step forward for other blind and partially-sighted Muslims. It is also hoped that mosque leaders both in the UK and internationally will now make similar adjustments to enable Muslim guide dog owners to enter their mosque."
