Asghar Bukhari, co-founder and spokesperson for the Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK (MPAC UK), has this week made comments which glorify terrorism, including:

"Muslims who fight against the occupation of their lands are 'Mujahadeen' and are blessed by Allah. And any Muslim who fights against Israel and dies is a martyr and will be granted paradise."

"There is no greater oppressor on this earth then [sic] the Zionists, who murder little children for sport."

NUS champions political Islam

Wes Streeting, the president of the National Union of Students (NUS), has taken the time to increase the NUS's links with the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).

The MCB have extensive links to Jamaat e-Islami, a radical Islamist organisation. However this was not enough to deter Wes, who spoke as to "how much the NUS value its close and continued relations with the MCB."

Glasgow Airport bomber handed life sentence

Yesterday Bilal Abdulla was sentenced to life in prison after he was charged for the attempted car bomb attacks in central London and Glasgow Airport in June 2007. He has been found guilty of a conspiracy to murder and cause explosions.

The Government has launched a consultation on the legal implications of regulating Islamic finance in the UK.

The joint Treasury – Financial Services Authority (FAS) consultation will set out the proposed legislative framework for regulation of an alternative financial instrument commonly known as an Islamic bond, or sukuk, which is interest-free and asset-backed.

Indian police have released further details on the nine alleged terrorists killed during the recent Mumbai attacks.

According to this latest information, all men were born and raised in Pakistan. This contradicts previous fears that British men were involved in the attacks.

9/11 and Mumbai "masterminds" in the spotlight

Two men who played an allegedly significant part in recent terrorist atrocities are making the news today.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed faces a US military tribunal today for his role in 9/11, while Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba has been arrested on suspicion of planning last month’s attacks in Mumbai.


A Cambridge University study of young Muslim attitudes, published yesterday, says that government fears of Islamic radicalism on UK campuses are exaggerated. However, the report - based on interviews with only 26 students - is inaccurate and unrepresentative. Instead, the government needs to continue to strengthen its counter-radicalisation efforts.

Abu Qatada, a radical preacher described as Osama Bin Laden’s right hand man in Britain, is jailed over fears that he might flee the UK.
