UK universities are in trouble. A Degree of Influence, a new report from the Centre for Social Cohesion, shows that universities are now so impoverished that they are reliant on cash from theocracies and dictatorships to fund whole departments or institutes.

Jeremy Paxman and the BBC should be ashamed of themselves

Yesterday, Newsnight had the Muslim Council of Britain's Deputy Director-General, Daud Abdullah, in their studio following a report by Richard Watson on Contest 2.  Watson's analysis of the new strategy missed what was arguably the most significant shift in the government's approach, namely the much larger emphasis that has been placed on the role of ideology in inspiring Islamist terrorism.  Previous Contest and Prevent documents included only the most fleeting references to this, whereas in the newest paper the word appears on almost every other page.  Daud Abdullah - and the Istanbul statement to which he has proudly put his name - represent this poisonous belief system.

Forced into hijab: a response to Katharine Quarmby

CSC researcher, Houriya Ahmed, wrote for First Drafts - the Prospect magazine blog today. The piece is reproduced below.

In Britain, freedom of consciousness and liberalism thrive. Women can choose to wear the hijab (headscarf) or not, and so Katharine Quarmby can ponder at will its aesthetic and fashion implications. In Iran, however, such a luxury is unimaginable. A woman's worth and modesty is dictated by misogynist Islamist clerics who force women to wear the hijab and throw feminists in jail for daring to protest for equal human rights.

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) has released a statement in support of the genocidal President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir.  According to the announcement: 'The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) expresses its profound rejection of the ICC position, regarding its decision to level charges against the Sudanese president, Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, in issuing a warrant for his arrest; a step that reflects mismanagement on the part of the international order in dealing with the Darfur crisis and its repercussions.'

It is time for some of the self described moderates to prove themselves

It was reported on Sunday that the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Dr. Daud Abdullah, is facing calls to resign over his support for Hamas.  He was one of 90 co-signatories to the Global Anti-Aggression Campaign statement which not only supports Hamas terrorist operations, but criticises any attempts at reaching a peaceful agreement.  Another UK-based signatory to this statement was Mohammed Sawalha, a trustee of the supposedly reformed former pulpit of the hook-handed hate preacher Abu Hamza, the North London Central Mosque (AKA Finsbury Park Mosque) and the head of the British Muslim Initiative (BMI), one of the main organisers of the London protests against Israel's actions in Gaza.

When questioned about whether or not they were to allow Hezbollah spokesman Ibrahim el-Moussawi in to the country the Home Office had this to say:

'Exclusion decisions are based on hard evidence not hearsay, and are targeted at those who seek to stir up tension and provoke others to violence regardless of their origins and beliefs.'

There is no hearsay in saying that as media spokesman for a genocidal terrorist group, it is Moussawi's job to 'stir up tension and provoke others to violence'.  This is a job he has carried out with great skill: he was the Head of Political Programming at al-Manar TV, the official media wing of Hezbollah, when it was banned in France and Germany and by the leading European satellite providers for stirring up hatred against Jews, inciting violence against them and glorifying suicide bombings.
