A Muslim community leader in Loughton, Essex was abducted at knifepoint on Monday in an attack the Police have confirmed they are treating as an incident of hate crime.
Noor Ramjanally, 35, was home alone on Monday, when he
states that:
'When I opened the door, two white men
just grabbed me by my wrists and pulled me outside. They put a knife upon my
stomach and said to me, do what you are told or you will get hurt'. I was
scared. "They forced me into the boot of a 4x4 and one of the men held me with
a knife to my chest. They drove me to Epping Forest and one said, Do it here'.
I thought that my life was over." He added: "They walked with me deep into the
forest and said: We don't want the Islamic group in Loughton. If you don't
stop, we'll come back'. Then they disappeared.'
The men did not mention the BNP, but Ramjanally added
that:
'it is only the BNP who want my Islamic group out of Loughton. I
believe the BNP campaign has inspired the violence.'
Ramjanally runs prayer sessions in a community hall that
has been the target of a BNP campaign. His home was firebombed last month and
he has also received hate mail threatening his family.
In early August the BNP circulated an inflammatory
leaflet with a picture of a union flag being eaten away by the Islamic moon and
crescent. The leaflet states that 'In parts of neighbouring Redbridge and east
London the Islamification process is almost complete. We'll do all in our power
to prevent Islam creeping into our town'. The leaflet is headed 'NO MOSQUES IN
LOUGHTON!' The BNP has four councillors in the area and Pat Richardson, the
Epping Forest BNP group leader said she has seen the leaflet and 'didn't
disagree with it'.
Richardson and The BNP strongly deny any responsibility or
link to the attacks on Ramjanally. However Richardson does add that the Muslim
prayer meeting did not fit in with the area's mainly white population:
"It's not really natural for the area because there are so few
Muslims," she said. Essex Police have confirmed that they are treating all
the incidents as linked and related to Muslim groups' use of the community hall.

THE Muslim community leader who claimed he had been kidnapped by two men and dumped in Epping Forest has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, the Guardian understands.
Noor Ramjanally, of Valley Hill, Loughton, had alleged last week that two men abducted him from his flat and forced him into a 4x4 at knifepoint.
He said they drove him to Epping Forest in the boot of the vehicle before taking him out and telling him to stop the Muslim prayer services he had begun at Murray Hall in March.
Today (September 3), Mr Ramjanally has been arrested and is being questioned at Harlow police station.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “A man has been arrested in connection with an ongoing police investigation into an alleged abduction in West Essex.
“Police were contacted on Monday August 24 by a man who stated that he had been abducted from his home in the Valley Hill area of Loughton.
“On Thursday September 3, police arrested a 36 year-old man from the town on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.”
This wouldn't be the same Mr Noor Ramjanally who was arrested yesterday and is currently being held at Harlow police station, would it?
